Archaeological discoveries indicate that the first Indonesian man lived on the island of Java. Excavations by archaeologists have produced fossils of ancient men in Java and the remains of their culture. At the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century fossils of men were found from the Old Stone Age.

Besides the classical Javanese dance-dramas and sendratari, Surakarta style and Yogyakarta style, there are other independent dances which have always been popular with Indonesians especially the Javanese. These dances rake the form of war-dances and love-dances. The dances used to be called beksan, wireng or petilan, but they are now called only by their names. Thus Damarwulan has saved Majapahit, and at the same time wins two beautiful wives, Anjasmara and Prabu Kenya.

Apart from, its function as property for holy ceremonies, we can also regard the nekara as a holy musical instrument. That is to say, this musical instrument Would be sounded only in religious ceremonies to accompany religious dances that were magical and sacral in nature. The Period of Feudal Seciety can be subdivided into four shorter periods, viz. Hindu-Indonesian period, Islamic period, tile period of Western Invasion and the period of the Indonesia national Movement.
